Mater in Emergency Medicine (MEM) is a post graduate course offered by Star Hospitals in collaboration with Society for Emergency Medicine India (SEMI). This course aims to create a whole new class of emergency physicians who are trained to practice in complex and challenging arena by providing services par excellence.
The duration of the course is for 3 years. It is a full time residential course.
This course is specially aimed at doctors interested in enhancing their emergency care skills or making a career in emergency medicine. Any MBBS graduate registered with Telangana Medical Council is eligible to take this course. Selection will be made through interview by the selection committee at the institution.
The FRCEM examination which is based on the Royal College of Emergency Medicine curriculum is competency-based examination which assesses knowledge, skills and behaviors necessary for the successful clinical practice of Emergency Medicine. The areas assessed will include the evaluation and initial management of clinical conditions seen in patients who present, as emergencies, to Emergency Departments.
Star Hospitals promotes clearing of the FRCEM exam during the residents training tenure for the MEM program. This enables the residents in acquiring a dual degree in 3 years.
The examination is set at a standard to commensurate with the level of expertise necessary to practice as a specialist in Emergency Medicine.
