Clinical Nutrition Dietetics

Clinical Nutrition Dietetics

Nutrition is directly related to diet and health. It involves metabolic and physiological responses of the human body to the diet they consume. It has the power to solve the negative health aspects like deficiencies, excesses and imbalances through proper and a well-balanced diet. The results are the best indicators of its success by virtue of a healthier body and mind. In this era of a sedentary lifestyle, holistic nutrition in the form of a therapeutic diet has taken a back seat, with many of us often resorting to the consumption of junk and fast foods.

The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics of STAR Hospitals strives to encourage good nutritional practices by offering nutritional assessment along with dietary advice, which helps in the total recovery of the patient.

The team ensures optimum nutrition for patients undergoing or recovering through various treatments. Dietary intervention can improve tolerance of various medical procedures, in addition to improving quality of life. This service is available to both inpatients and outpatients. Clinical Nutritionists assess the nutritional status of patients, calculate individual nutritional requirements and design a plan of care to meet these nutritional requirements and educate families on health, promoting diets or nutritional support.

Outpatient's Services

The Department of Nutrition and Food Services provides a range of outpatient services on the premises of the hospital. Nutrition experts’ focus on educating the general public about the management of specific dietary needs in various areas, including cardiac care, diabetes, childhood and adult obesity. They also provide nutritional care and advice about lifestyle maintenance and health-enhancing dietary appliances.

Inpatient Services

Good nutrition is a key component of recovery from surgery or illness; as a result of which the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics provides nutrition care, advice and education to patients while they are in the hospital and post-discharge. Qualified dieticians work with the patient's medical team, providing valuable information regarding appropriate nutrition care. They may also educate patients on nutrient modifications prescribed by the patients’ physician. Nutrition and food service staff helps patients select their daily menu and deliver meals at patient's convenience.
