Born on 9th January 1957, Dr. Gopi Chand Mannam earned his MBBS degree from Guntur Medical College, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh in April 1981. In 1986, he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgery (Edinburgh) in General Surgery and later a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Glasgow) in Cardio-Thoracic Surgery. He subsequently worked at Royal Brompton and National Hospital, London.

After getting trained & practiced in Jamaica and UK for 14 years, in 1995, he returned to India with an intention to dedicate himself to establish cutting edge Cardio Thoracic Surgery in India. In 2008, he is a founder partner of Star Hospitals which embraces the core values of Expertise, Excellence and Empathy. Dr. Gopi Chand Mannam is renowned for being a versatile CT Surgeon and is considered as a Single Point destination for all challenging Cardio Thoracic Surgical problems. He was the first to do a beating heart Coronary Bypass Surgery and a Heart Transplantation using an undersized donor heart in INDIA. He also pioneered Minimally Invasive Atrial Septal Defect Closure and Mitral Valve Replacement in the country. His vast surgical experience exceeds 25000 cardiac surgeries, yet he is a Surgeon whom his patients remember as one with an exceptionally approachable attitude and helping nature.

Dr. Gopi Chand Mannam spearheaded a movement to enable surgeries for Congenital Heart Disease among under privileged children of the region through the Government Health schemes. He also co-founded Hrudaya Cure a Little Heart Foundation to deal with the scourge of heart disease in under-privileged children in India. Through the efforts of the foundation he has been able to perform interventional pediatric Cardiac procedures and Cardio Thoracic surgical procedures for more than 3000 children as of 2015. He and his surgical team have contributed to the scientific literature of peer reviewed medical journals across the globe.

Dr. Gopi Chand Mannam is truly a global Ambassador for India through his efforts to provide Cardiac Surgical support in other developing and under developed countries. He has been involved in taking Pediatric Cardiac Surgery to the door steps of children desperately in need of Cardiac Surgeries in places like Ethiopia, Libya, etc. He is also associated with several global organizations like Mending Kids International, USA International Children’s Heart Foundation, USA, etc. More than 100 children have been benefited through these charitable efforts.

Another facet to this dynamic Surgeon is passion to preserve Indian Literature “Telugu” through MANASU Foundation to resurrect the disappearing literary treasures of India Dr. Gopichand has been conferred galaxy of awards which includes Award of Appreciation (2001-02) by the Chief Minister Mr. Chandra Babu Naidu, Best Doctor of the Year Award (2005) presented by former Director of NIMS, TV5 Business Leader Award (2013) by Sri Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy, Chief Minister of AP. In 2013, Dr. Gopichand was honoured by Dr. MGR Medical University, Tamil Nadu with a Doctor in Science. He received this honor through the hands of his excellence, Dr. K. Rosaiah, Governor of Tamil Nadu.
